December 7-8, 2024 | The Vines Den | 825 E Hastings St., Vancouver, BC
Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside will come alive with art, culture, and community connection at the first annual Hamburger Soup Art Show and Fundraiser hosted by the Miska Creative Society. Celebrating Indigenous creativity and emerging talent, this two-day event is more than just an art show—it’s an immersive experience that bridges cultural understanding through visual arts, live performances, and hands-on workshops. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with Indigenous artists, community Elders, and creative minds from across British Columbia.
Miska Creative Society
An Indigenous-led non-profit founded by Cree Métis siblings Jesse and Jenna Gouchey, the Miska Creative Society is committed to bringing art and community engagement to everyone. “Miska,” a Cree word meaning “find it,” reflects the organization’s mission to make art accessible and meaningful. Miska offers culturally enriched art workshops that blend artistic instruction from professional creatives with guidance from Indigenous Elders. For years, lead artist Jesse Gouchey has conducted mural and painting workshops throughout Western Canada, helping countless people express themselves through art while connecting with their cultural heritage.
Art Show, Silent Auction, and Workshops for All Ages
Taking place on December 7-8, 2024 at The Vines Den (825 E Hastings St.), the Hamburger Soup Art Show promises a vibrant weekend filled with artwork, free workshops, and performances that celebrate Indigenous culture.

A Cultural Celebration with Live Performances
The Hamburger Soup Art Show isn’t just about visual art. It’s a celebration of Indigenous performance and storytelling. From the traditional drumming and singing that will open the event to the Métis jigging that will bring it to a close, live performances provide an authentic cultural exchange. The opening and closing ceremonies offer the public a chance to connect with Indigenous traditions, engage with knowledge keepers, and experience the rich heritage underpinning each art work.
Supporting Community Art and Cultural Enrichment
With a generous grant from the TD Ready Commitment Connected Communities initiative, Miska Creative Society aims to make art accessible to all, especially those facing barriers to participation. This event is a powerful example of their mission to foster creativity, build connections, and celebrate Indigenous culture in Vancouver and beyond.
In addition to the art and workshops, visitors will have a chance to learn more about Miska’s ongoing programs and community outreach. Their workshops, rooted in traditional practices and modern techniques, are designed to educate and inspire people of all ages while respecting the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities.
